We have now sold 26,000 of these novena flyers!. Many of you bought our prayer book that included the fifteen prayers given to St. Bridget of Sweden on the Passion and Death of Jesus. These prayers were to be said each day for one year, with an Our Father and Hail Mary attached to each of the fifteen prayers. When the year was up, the person would have honored each of the 5,480 blows and wounds to Jesus' Body. The prayers had wonderful promises attached to them. The two of us said those prayers for three years. At the end of the first year, they were so much a part of our day that we didn't stop. Then we heard about another group of prayers that St. Bridget received from Jesus; prayers to be said for twelve years. It took a long time for us to find them. Actually, they found us. A gracious friend from California handed us a copy when we were selling subscriptions at the Irvine Peace Conference. We've said those prayers for over one year and believe it's time to share them with all of you. Each of the seven prayers honors a particular wound on Jesus' Body and the Precious Blood that flowed from it. Jesus' first wound was the Circumcision. The six other wounds honored are all part of his passion and death. The prayers are not as long as the fifteen prayers in the prayer book, so it's easier for the person to say them for twelve years. If the person dies before the twelve years are completed, the Lord promises to accept them as having been prayed in their entirety. Here are the promises: In these wonderful prayers, the person offers each wound of Jesus in atonement for a particular kind of sin and as protection against a particular sin. For example, the Flogging of Jesus is offered as atonement for humanity's sins of the flesh, and for the preservation of innocence, especially "among my (you can add your children's or grandchildren's name or whomever you chose) and relatives." Our older grandchildren are teenagers now and it gives us comfort to add their names every day, for the preservation of their innocence. As we began to tell people about these prayers, they asked for them. We wanted to spread this devotion as we did the fifteen prayers, but how? We sell laminated novena flyers at DuPage Marian Center - that seemed to be the answer. Monica agreed to do the layout of the flyer and we went in search of pictures to include. It turned out that there was room for another set of prayers in the flyer and we chose Mary's Seven Sorrows, which also were given to St. Bridget. These sorrows, each with a Hail Mary, helps us meditate upon Mary's tears and sorrows. Whoever prays them is promised the following graces: Imagine being looked on by Jesus as a martyr to our faith! Imagine seeing the face of our Blessed Mother as we are dying! Imagine knowing that future generations of our family will share Heaven with us! Now the flyer has been printed. We are selling them for $3.00 each, which includes shipping. The final size of the prayer card is 17.5" wide x 8.5" deep. It comes folded in four panels and is laminated for durability.
