True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin

By St. Louis de Montfort. This is a very old publication (1700's) and someone gave it to me recently and said she wanted me to do the Consecration to Mary. I realized I'd never read this book before, and what an incredible book it is. After a brief biography on St. Louis de Montfort, the book helped me see and understand Mary in a way I wouldn't have thought possible. The culmination is the Consecration prayer to Our Lady (and Jesus); Mary always leads us to her Son. It is best to reconsecrate yourself each year, so why not on January 1st? Included are prayers and litanies. I can't believe we always had this book in the Marian Center but I'd never read it. What a treasure! Softcover, 185 pages.

Medjugorje: What's Happening?

By James Mulligan. This is one of the best books I have read about Medjugorje. It begins by explaining the past in a very understandable way. I never understood the regional history, especially about Tito and the different ethnic problems in that area. It really touches on everything and everyone connected with Medjugorje, from the very beginning to the present, with history lessons, little known facts, and some of the most beautiful pictures I've ever seen; they are so abundant there is one on almost every page - I'd buy the book for them alone. The book covers the controversy connected with Medjugorje in a frank and honest way. The pictures of the young visionaries to the present are magnificent. There are chapters about Mother's Village, Cenacolo Community, the Risen Christ statue, conversion stories, the Catholic Church's stand, the medical, scientific, theological research, and at the end of the book, other Marian apparitions and so much more. Dear And Glorious Physician

By Taylor Caldwell. This is a book and author that Mary Sue and I loved in our earlier years. A novel of fiction about St. Luke (who wrote the third Gospel of the New Testament), it is so well written and researched you will think you are reading a biography about the saint. You follow St. Luke in his journey to find Jesus. The imagery of the places and people she writes about, along with the attention to detail about the physician-side of St. Luke, makes this a wonderfully believable book. I am so happy they brought back into print one of the best books of fiction I have ever read. I know you will love it as much as I do. Softcover, 563 pages.

By Immaculee Ilibagiza, with Steve Erwin. This is the personal account of the visionaries of Kibeho by Immaculee Ilibagiza (you may remember her book "Left to Tell," about the 1994 Rawandan genocide). Always believing in the apparitions, Immaculee writes a compelling account of the visionaries and their visions.

In 1981, Our Lady appeared to a girl named Alponsine Mumureke in an all girl's Catholic school. No one believed her. Our Lady appeared to Anathalie Mukamazimpaka in the school. There was a girl who was furious at the two visionaries, proclaiming them to be frauds. Our Lady began to appear to her as well, changing her so dramatically that most were now convinced the apparitions were genuine.

In 1982, Our Lady began appearing to more children with no connection to the first three. They all described Mary in exactly the same way, although they were separated by miles and didn't know each other. Our Lady showed all the visionaries "rivers of blood," describing the genocide before it happened. Some of them were killed in the terrible genocide and Kibeho was decimated. This book consists of 21 stories of young adults and their journey to God and to his Son, Jesus Christ. It is an incredibly honest collection of conversion stories. I never realized all the temptation, media, and worldliness that this generation must deal with on a daily basis, let alone trying to live out their faith in the overwhelming counter-culture atmosphere of this age. What an eye-opener for me. I read this book in one sitting and came away with a new respect and understanding of this generation. It is truly by the grace of God any of our young people are faith-filled and vibrant Catholics. I have a new respect and awe for the people who shared these incredible stories. There are many great prayers: prayer for a happy marriage, a special prayer of petition, a prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Lourdes, Fatima, Mount Carmel, Knock, Sinj (Croatia), Czestochowa, and so many more. At the end is has the Litany of the Blessed Virgin and a prayer to St. Joachim and St. Anne. This book really breathes new life into prayer time. The Queen Of Peace Visits Medugorje

It was one of the handbooks on Medjugorje for many years for the English speaking. This is the book Father Donald Calloway speaks of that changed his life of depravity overnight, as he read it. The book tells the story of the first days of the apparitions and has interviews with the visionaries and others in Medjugorje. It gives the testimonies of pilgrims whose lives were touched in those early days and it gives many of Our Lady's first messages. It also contains color photos of the visionaries in the early 1980's. This is the book that sent planeloads of Americans on pilgrimage to Medjugorje. The author is now deceased.

A Mother's Story of Her Beloved Son By Marion Lee, as told by Karyl Krick. Moose and Miracles is the inspiring story of a loving mom, dad, and seven kids coping with the diagnosis and death of their young son and brother, Kraig, from a tumor of the brain stem. (Kraig collects toy moose.) The story illustrates the goodness and mercy of God, but most of all it shows love, compassion, and faith, even when the family's prayers are answered in a different way from expected. It renewed my faith in humanity; people prayed and helped and God sent a special person, Father Jacques LaPointe, when the family needed him most. This beautifully written book will make you laugh and cry and I guarantee it is a story you'll never forget. Soft cover, 187 pages.

Amazing Grace For Survivors

50 Stories of Faith, Hope, and Perseverance By Jeff Cavins, Matthew Pinto, Patti Armstrong, and Luke Armstrong. Readers send in these Amazing Grace stories, much like the Chicken Soup series. These, however, are written from a Catholic/Christian perspective. You may remember previously published works: Amazing Grace for Married Couples, Mothers, Fathers, Catholic Hearts, and for those who Suffer.

There are many kinds of survivors: survivors of illness, of course, but also surviving parents of dying children, drug-addicted children, children who are victims of rape, the jailed, abandoned, and much more. All the stories are riveting and it's hard to put the book down. God and hope enter all circumstances.

My favorite part is called Survivor's one-liners. This is a compelling but humorous way of looking at hard times with cute, one-line wisdom quips. One chapter is entitled "All things are possible with God," and this book proves it! If you're having a hard time in your life or know someone who is, this is the book for you. With wonderful personal examples to enhance the meaning of God-encounters, this is a clear, concise, totally understandable, incredible book. Each chapter has a reflection, with questions for group discussion at the end of the book. You will come to know the graciousness, beauty, love, hope, forgiveness, providence, and the gifts of God. Why must we die? Peter Kreeft gives complete and masterful answers suitable for teens and adults alike. Chico recalls the Holy Father's days as a student, a seminarian, priest, bishop, cardinal, and he even talks about living through Nazi Germany. In a cute, clear, cat-style, with great illustrations, this clever book is a must have. Hardcover, 37 pages.

101 Inspirational Stories of the Power of Prayer

By Sister Patricia Proctor. This is the fifth book in the series. You may remember stories of the Eucharist, Rosary, Priesthood, and Reconciliation.

The book is about the incredible personal stories that people shared with Sr. Patricia about the power of prayer. I know that each and every time I write a book review about Sr. Proctor's new books, I say "This one is the best yet," and it is always true! Each book is better than the last, and they are all great.

These stories are similar to the "Chicken Soup" books, only better for us because of their Catholic components. We Catholics are great pray-ers and believers in miracles, so you know how great these prayer stories are. First there is the story, then a great quote by a saint or from the Bible, then a ten minute meditation. These are excellent as well.

If you love Sister's books and want to revive your love of prayer, this is the book for you. Softcover, 276 pages.

By Joan Wester Anderson. Joan is the author of many best-selling books about angels. Similar to her other books, these stories have been sent to her by people telling their heavenly experiences. However, this book is different. While it does have angel stories, it has more stories about God's love and concern for us. These stories make you laugh, cry, and know for certain that the angels, saints, and God HImself interact with us on earth, especially in times of need.

As always, Joan's books are an uplifting read and I know you will love these new stories. Softcover, 262 pages.

Graced and Gifted

Biblical Wisdom for the Homemaker's Heart, By Kimberly Hahn. This book is taken from a set of 24 Bible study series on the vocation of marriage. It begins with tips and biblical wisdom and a valuable piece about priority setting. It goes on to talk about all we do as women in the home as homemakers, with practical applications and examples from Kim's own life.

I love Kimberly's wonderful insights into how the biblical can apply in life, even in the most mundane tasks. I never realized that preparing food, time management, sweeping, washing clothes and doing dishes can be life-changing! At the end of the book are outlines, questions for study groups, and there is even a great section on buying your next home.

I highly recommend this book as a gift for the newly married or the new mom. I found good advice for me, too, that helps me refocus the second phase of my life, now that all our children are grown. I love the way Kimberly Hahn thinks and writes. Softcover, 242 pages.

This will be a gift from Me, this knowledge of the connection between your suffering and the fruits I send to the world. Don't you think it will be easier to carry your cross if you can see the fruits in your family's lives? Remarkable.

God's Door Keepers - Padre Pio, Solanus Casey and Andre Bessette

By Joel Schorn. This book begins by giving a short biography of Andre Bessette. He is a saint who I wasn't familiar with until I read this book. Brother Andre was a Holy Cross Brother and Canadian saint. Next, Solanus Casey, a Capuchin priest from the Midwest, and lastly, the beloved Padre Pio.

Each of these saints had humble beginnings and were deemed not the brightest. Hence, the first two were literally doorkeepers and Padre Pio was similarly in one of the lowest jobs in his order. Yet these saints were exalted by God and many healings and miracles are attributed to each. Read what they had in common and why God blessed them. I especially enjoyed reading about Padre Pio.

At the end of the book there are the feast days and ecclesiastically approved prayers for each of these saints. This book is a truly interesting and humbling read. Soft cover, 151 pages.

The Inspiring Stories of 12 Men Who Became Priests. By Jerry Usher and Christine Mugridge. This book tells the path that these wonderful priests took to the priesthood. Some of the stories will surprise you, some will enthrall you, but all will make you remember what a holy calling the priesthood is! Some of the priests are famous and recognizable, like Fr. Benedict Groeschel (I always wanted to know his story), Fr. Frank Pavone (known for his Pro-Life work), Fr. Kevin Scanlon, and His Eminence John Cardinal Foley. All these stories show the grace and Hand of God in their lives and reminded me to reflect on the "God Story" in my own life. In addition, this book tells the very nature of these wonderful priests. Soft cover, 287 pages.

Amusing and Thought-Provoking Parallels Between the Bible and Baseball. By Gary Graf. This is a great book to give a baseball fan for Father's Day, or any day. Since I'm a football fan (the author has one for football, too) I asked an "expert" to help me by also reading this book. My first impression was favorable but my baseball-fan-friend loved it! It is my opinion that the Bible part of the book is mostly "tongue in cheek." It did have some great passages and I saw the author's point in regard to the similarity of the Bible and baseball. The baseball part of the book was fantastic. I knew little about baseball, especially its early beginnings, so I found it very interesting, informative, and honest. I'll give this book as a gift to all baseball fans I know! It's a fun read. Soft cover, 175 pages.

A Survivor From The Lost Generation Of Catholics

By Traci Matheu. Basically, it is a reconversion story of Traci Matheu and her family. However, it is so much more. Traci is an incredibly talented person. I met her when she sent us beautiful pictures of Medjugorje she had taken and sold as cards. Then she sent the magazine her story and it was printed. Her book is great. I was at first put-off by the title but don't let it fool you. Traci begins by giving you background about herself and what brought her back to the Catholic Church. Then you travel through the rest of the book saying, "Yes, Yes, Yes!".

She begins by getting to know God at His very core - God is Love. In her quest, she starts with the Declaration of Independence and gives examples where we, in this country, are off track. She talks about her own children and how her quest for God impacted them and she gives astute observations on parents and children. She talks about her marriage and commitment from a Biblical and the Catechism's point of view. She shares her faith and so much more. I found myself wanting to give this book to my adult children with a sticker on the front that says, "RIGHT ON!". Soft cover, 185 pages.

St. Therese, A Treasured Love Story

By Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. Not only will you get to see St. Therese (a doctor of the Church and spiritual leader) in a unique way through the eyes of Fulton Sheen but you will get to know the spiritual, funny and loving Fulton Sheen as well.

This book was written from the talks given by Archbishop Fulton Sheen on the 100th Anniversary of St. Therese's birth. It begins with the autobiography of both Fulton Sheen and St. Therese of Lisieux.

Classic Fulton Sheen, he always gives examples to go along with the point he is trying to make. Sometimes the examples are funny, sometimes profound, but always thought provoking. The whole book is truly wonderful and one of my favorite parts is Fulton Sheen's final farewell written to a friend three days before he died, which for me sums up the incredible life and legacy this wonderful priest left us all. With eleven pages of photos of St. Therese and Fulton Sheen this book is a must have for your home and to give as a gift. Hard cover, 182 pages.

This is the next book in the Amazing Grace Series (You may remember Amazing Grace for Mothers, Fathers, Catholic Heart, Married Couples and Those who are Suffering), and in my opinion the best one yet.

In a time when so many families are not staying together, this book tells of the true meaning of family in all its love, wisdom, hope, humor, faithfulness, character, and strength.

These short easy to read, amazing stories that will make you laugh, cry and be truly thankful for all the families in your life. These stories are so good I guarantee you will be sharing the book with others. Soft cover, 325 pages.

The Heart Of A Saint

Ten Ways To Grow Closer To God By Bert Ghezzi. Bert Ghezzi, who has written more saints books than any author I know of, has selected 10 saints to show us that we too can become saints, just as they did.

Some of the ten you may already know, like Pope John Paul II, and some you may not know, like Saint Roque Gonzalez and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, all will help you to grow closer to God after reading about them. These saints all made the decision to give their hearts whole-heartedly to God- some through prayer, service, social justice, or love of neighbor. Bert Ghezzi tells us that we too can become saints by giving ourselves to God. After each story Bert writes a section called Think, Act and Pray, to reflect on the message of the saint's life and how it can be applied to your own life.

Steps To Reconciliation By Father Eamon Tobin. I chose this book because it is a great book for Lent and for those who find it hard to forgive (like me).

This book clarifies what forgiveness is and what it is not. It also names ten major obstacles to the process of forgiveness (very helpful for me). It helps us to pray to forgive even if it is God or ourselves that we need to forgive. It also helps with the difficult questions like what about injustice? Why forgive someone who has no remorse? What can I do in an ongoing abusive situation? And so much more! Soft cover, 82 pages.

Questions and Answers About Your Journey To God

By Father Benedict Groeschel. The book is in a question and answer format in Fr. Groeschel's direct and easy to understand style.

Most of the book explains the stages of a spiritual life (with chart). The questions are from a large group of people whom Fr. Groeschel asked to submit questions they most wanted to know about their spiritual life's journey.

This book is a great resource for judging where you are in your own journey to God (which is life long). At the end of the book Fr. Groeschel gives an excellent list of the spiritual books he recommends to help with the spiritual journey. In this day and age we need this book! Soft cover, 127 pages.

The Catholic Teen Bible - Prove It!

This Bible is part of the Prove it series that I love for teens (see the summer magazine book reviews). What makes this different from other bibles for teens are the pages interspersed throughout the bible written by Amy Wellborn. Amy Wellborn has written many books and taught religion at the high school level for nine years.

Some of the subjects that Amy writes about are: "Does God exist?, Prayer, What is a miracle?, Why go to church?, What about war?" and many more great subjects that teens want to know about. At the end of the bible it lists the Ten Commandments, Gifts of the Holy Spirit, How to say the rosary, the Stations of the Cross, and many prayers. Soft cover, 1,400 pages.

These stories remind us that we are all in need of conversion and that we are the children of Mary and what a great mother she is to us all! Our Lord advises us that by the fruits you shall know them - by these conversion stories you will know that the fruits of Medjugorje are good. Soft cover, 239 pages.

Paper Bag Prayers - Finding God in Little Things Any Time, Any Place

By Bernadette McCarver Snyder. This is a cute little book of prayer about taking ordinary things in life and making a prayerful connection. With a little laugh and prayer you can see God in all things (even in a cotton swab and a pair of scissors). The idea of the book is that each item used in prayer is small enough to fit in a paper bag, hence the title of the book. This book gave me a whole new perspective on the small and mundane "things" that we all take for granted in our life. Each chapter has a short story and a prayer that fits wonderfully with each item.

My brief description here of what this book is about is only a small portion of the contents. There is so much more. This is not a book that will be read quickly, because of its depth. The thought-provoking words and ideas of Jesus of Nazareth are truly profound. Many times I had to put the book down to ponder the incredible insights I had just read. I consider this a great work of literature by our new Pope. I think you will too. Hardcover, 373 pages.

Left To Tell

By Immaculee Ilibagiza, with Steve Erwin. Her book is on the best seller list. This is an account of Immaculee's incredible survival of the Rwandan genocide. In 1994, the death of the Hutu president started the three month killing of one million Tutsi, including most of Immaculee's family, friends, and neighbors. Immaculee hid in a small bathroom with seven other women for three months, with little food or water, knowing the murderers were looking for her, to rape, torture, and kill her.

You will come to realize God's unfailing protection and unconditional love. It is amazing to read her transformation in faith and the maturing of the only thing she had left - total trust in God. An added bonus is her deep Catholic faith presented to the whole world on these pages.

Most amazing to me is Immaculee's change from hatred to forgiveness, through God's grace, of the Hutus who killed her family. This book strengthened my belief in God, showed me how insignificant my petty quarrels and hurts can be, and made me take a good look at myself. Softcover, 210 pages.

Prove It! GOD

By Amy Wellborn. This book is the first of five of the PROVE IT series for teens. I love these books because when my children became teens they questioned everything! (Why do I have to go to Church?

Why do I have a curfew? and on and on) Written in small, quick, and easy to read chapters, with a few cool cartoons, it answers the questions that teens ask most. The chapter's names are amusing as well as highly pertinent. For example: "I Don't Believe in God Because People Do Such Horrible Things in the Name of Religion."

Written in a language and style that will hold teen's interest (You know that God is not the lead singer of Nirvana, right?) At the end of each chapter is a section called, "So … Our Point is …" which really goes to the heart of the matter, without the cute banter. With excellent examples and quotes to bring home the point (Truth is truth so either it's true or false and that includes God.) this book taught me to approach the questions of my young adult children differently.

He uses his own experiences, history, Scripture, and even natural law to help readers understand, explain, defend and live the Catholic faith. As always, Scott Hahn's writing is clear, concise, and written in a style that is interesting and easy to understand.

At the heart of this book is Scott's examination of the ten "keys to the kingdom" - the characteristics of the Church clearly evident in the Scriptures. For all Scott Hahn fans, this is a must read book! Hardcover, 227 pages.

The Legacy of John Paul II, Images & Memories

By Joseph Ratzinger. How great it is to have a book about Pope John Paul II written by the current Pope Benedict XVI. The then Cardinal Ratzinger pays tribute to his predecessor, mentor, and friend of 25 years.

The many, many beautiful photographs by Giancarlo Giuliani (some never published before), along with Pope Benedict’s insights, make this an incredible book. Each photo is documented as to the time and place it was taken and all are truly breathtaking. Some of my favorites depict Pope John Paul with heads of states, other religious (I especially like the one with Mother Teresa), Ali Agca, and just ordinary people (the ones with the children he loved so much are especially wonderful). There is even one where he is in the hospital bed.

This book will make you laugh, cry, but most of all remember how much John Paul II was loved; how holy and humble he was. I always make available to you the books I love and I truly love this book! Hardcover, 114 page.

Mother Angelica’s Little Book of Life Lessons and Everyday Spirituality

Benedict puts it the best when he tells you when you are at Adoration what to do after you kneel down. He begins the book by giving you five easy steps. Next, each section gives prayers and meditations with a saint or a blessed (it gives the saint’s station in life plus country and date of birth).

I like this book because when I took it to Adoration it truly gave me a meditation to pray about and apply to my life. I felt Jesus’ hand in what touched my heart in the passage I was reading. It’s a great tool for Adoration and to come closer to Jesus with the help of the saints, many of whom were unknown to me before now. Soft cover, 145 pages.

It tells what Reconciliation is and what it is not, with a wonderful clear and concise understanding of this sacrament, through the experiences of people, with all their doubts and frailties. After reading these wonderful stories I began to love the Sacrament of Reconciliation and began going weekly. This one is a collection of extraordinary short stories about fathers. All the books in the series are so wonderful that I knew I had to review this one as well. However, I struggled, because even though my dad died 18 years ago, I miss him more every day. The book sat on my desk for weeks before I could begin reading. Once I started, however, I was glad I did. I found joy, memories, and much more. For me, it was healing, and for you whose fathers are living, it will be a great birthday, Christmas, or Father's Day gift (with passages highlighted or love notes inside that pertain to your father, if you so choose).

This book will help you to reconnect with and appreciate the father and father figures in your life. Soft cover, 295 pages.

This work, by a commission of bishops appointed by Pope John Paul II, over which Benedict XVI (then Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger) presided, is a synthesis of the Cathechism of the Catholic Church, which contains all the essential and fundamental elements of our faith.

The Compendium was written to make the Catechism more widely known and understood. Using reference numbers, it helps readers to refer back to the Cathechism, if needed.

There are four parts to the Compendium:
1. Profession of Faith
2. Celebration of Christian Mystery
3. Life in Christ
4. Christian Prayer

I love the format of the Compendium, which is question and answer (called dialogue format). This format was chosen for better understanding and easier memorization.

Included throughout the text are beautiful artistic images and pictures, which make it not only informative but a work of art. Lastly, there are traditional Catholic prayers, both in Latin and English, and a section called Formulas of Catholic Doctrine, which includes the Beatitudes, Five Precepts of the Church, Seven Corporal Works of Mercy, Gifts of the Holy Spirit, and more. By Fr. Benedict Groeschel. This book could have been titled simply Faith! It concerns itself with Faith in God, Faith in Christ, Faith in the Church. If you have any doubts or questions about faith, this is the book for you.

I love the way Fr. Groeschel writes. He gives a statement, explains it in an easy to understand way, and then gives an example (you'll love his examples).

With my own young adult children I used the part about why we should go to Church. "Jesus didn't establish a T.V. program. He established a Church." This is a great book, short and to the point.

GOD IS LOVE

Deus Caritas Est. Encyclical Letter of the Supreme Pontiff Benedict XVI. This is the very first encyclical of our new Pope Benedict XVI. How fitting that his first one is on love!

In this troubled world, Pope Benedict's Encyclical goes right to the heart of the matter. He begins by telling us what love is and what love isn't. Next, he explains about the love of Jesus Christ/God and the Church, and lastly he speaks of love and charity within community and within the Church.

His style of writing is much different from John Paul II's style, and for the average Catholic, is more easily understood. You will get to know something of the personality and style of our new Pope by reading this, his first encyclical.

THE QUEEN OF PEACE VISITS MEDJUGORJE

By Father Joseph A. Pelletier, A.A. This book was one of the first written in English on Medjugorje and Father Pelletier, now deceased, used Stan and Margie Karminski's videos, pictures, and interviews with the visionaries. The Karminskis went with Father Pelletier to the holy village and later helped with the book. Softcover, 265 pages.

PADRE PIO IN AMERICA

By Frank M. Rega. Padre Pio often said that he wanted all Americans to be his spiritual children and many are. Did you know that Padre Pio's father came to America to work so he could support his family? One of the first and closest friends from America was Mary Pyle, a wealthy aristocrat from New York. Mary was so close to Padre Pio that each of his parents lived with her before their deaths. She took many Americans into her house who were in Italy to see Padre Pio.

It is not surprising that America was very involved with Padre Pio and all his projects, especially after the Second World War, when the American soldiers constantly visited Padre Pio and brought their devotion to him home to their families.

The book begins with a biography of Padre Pio, with testimonies, stories, and funny antidotes. God bestowed wonderful gifts on this saint in his lifetime. The book tells of his spiritual children, his doctors, his priest brothers, his death, and his work on the hospital that he began. His legacy lives on, especially in his encounters with his beloved Americans. There are pictures of his parents, Mary Pyle, and more.

Learning how many Americans were involved in Padre Pio's life and work was amazing. You will love reading how he affected their lives, as only Americans can tell their story. Soft cover, 308 pages.

THE WHOLE WORLD WILL LOVE ME

The Life of St. Therese of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face, By Dorothy Scallan. We are offering this book because after seeing the movie "Therese," you will want to know more about this incredible saint. What I consider to be one of the best biographies of St. Therese of Lisieux will have you enthralled. It is complete in the details of St. Therese and her life; with facts that I didn't know, even after reading many books about her. For example, did you know that her devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus was for the conversion of the Godless and that roses weren't her favorite flower? What a great intercessor Saint Therese is!

Even if you have a life-long devotion, like I have, or know very little about St. Therese of Lisieux, you will love this book. Soft cover, 336 pages.

I have ordered several books about Pope Benedict XVI in the last few weeks so I could find the best one to review for this magazine. I think I found it. It is unique and comprehensive in many ways. In the beginning of the book there is much about John Paul II and the role Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger played in the Vatican, the funeral, the Funeral Mass, and afterwards, as only a Catholic can tell it.

It is also unique and informative about who was specifically in the "running" for the 265th election as Pope, with names and information about each and the process of the election. Also, there is a time line of Pope Benedict's life and what was happening in the world at that time. There are 17 pages of wonderful pictures of this Pope.

You can read in his own words why he chose the name Benedict, how he met John Paul II and why that Pope chose Cardinal Ratzinger to be Prefect of the Congregation for the Faith (for the next 24 years the cardinal had the tough job of dealing with the problems of the Church). Read about Benedict during the Nazi years, about this incredible theologian, writer, his contribution to the Second Vatican Council, and his faithfulness to the Church even against Marxism. MEDJUGORJE MIRACLES OF PHYSICAL HEALINGS

By Larry and Mary Sue Eck. That’s the title of the new book we’ve compiled and edited. People often say that Medjugorje has no physical healings, like Lourdes. Wrong! We decided to look through all 55 of our issues and see if we had enough physical healings to fill a book. We had too many. Like a magazine, a book is done in a format of so many pages and we decided to keep the cost down and go for about 200 pages. We chose enough stories to fit into that number. We also added a sixteen page, full color section so readers can see the people who are sharing their story.

Some of the stories we included are incredible healing stories, like Colleen Willard’s, Artie Boyle’s, and Jerry Drumm’s. But there are others, like Loretta Young and her broken foot. She walked all over Medjugorje on it without pain, learning how badly it was broken only when she arrived home and had it x-rayed.

This is an incredible book of St. Faustina's conversations with Jesus and His with her. Her poems, prayers, and life of sacrifice, all for the love of God¹s mercy, draws you in like no other book I've read before. Included in the Diary is the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Novena to be said for nine days starting on Good Friday and ending the Sunday after Easter. Along with confession, our dear Lord says this Novena will obtain unimaginable graces and is the last hope for sinners and the dying. Using the Bible and examples, he really made me look at Confession in a different way. Beginning with sin, its roots and consequences, he explains the need for Confession, the Catholic practices (including why we confess to a priest) and he gives many other clear explanations of morality, restitution, original sin, our relationship to God, grace, God's mercy, finding a confessor and much more. This book is wonderful if you go to Confession regularly. It breathes new life into this holy and necessary Sacrament. If you haven't been to Confession for awhile, this book is wonderful because it has the rite and prayers to refresh your memory and to remind you just how life-changing Confession can be.

Surprised By Truth 3, by Patrick Madrid. The other part of the title for this book is: 10 More Converts Explain the Biblical and Historical Reasons for Becoming Catholic. In my opinion, these conversion stories are the best and most apologetic-like ones of all three books in the series. This book is called the “convert maker” and that’s a good description of these excellent theologically-based conversion stories. They truly are examples of Protestants searching for the truth. Surprised by Truth 3 is a wonderful book to give your Protestant friends but it also gives Catholics a fresh look at their own faith roots.

How Firm a Foundation, A Novel by Marcus Grodi. This is an excellent novel about a Protestant minister becoming Catholic. It gives a realistic view of the struggles and life-changing dramatic events that the whole family goes through when the father, Steven, begins to realize that what he is teaching from his pulpit is in question. For a “Scripture-alone” Protestant Evangelical Preacher, to give up everything he loves and was taught to follow, in order to fulfill God’s will for him, makes this novel one you won’t be able to put down!

Testimony Of The Cross, by Grzegorz Galazka. A coffee-table-size book of meditations and prayers of his Holiness Pope John Paul II for the Stations of the Cross, at the Colosseum on Good Friday, 2000. The Stations of the Cross and the meditations by the Holy Father are worth the price of this book. However, the reason I chose this book to include in this issue, and what makes it an exceptional value, are the most beautiful pictures of the Pope that I’ve ever seen! This book will change the way you say the Stations of the Cross.

Picture Book Of Saints, by Reverend Lawrence G. Lovasik, S.V.D. This beautifully illustrated book contains stories of the saints written especially for children, although adults love the short yet informative versions. This little gem contains 114 stories of saints and includes wonderful pictures, plus a presentation page (“Presented to … .by …”) that seems to come straight out of an old, hand-tooled leather-bound edition. A real keepsake for that special child, to be passed down the generations.

WB03 - PADRE PIO, MAN OF HOPE This is a very different book about Padre Pio. It is written from letters, documents and conversations, some previously unpublished, from his spiritual sons and daughters. Along with wonderful facts about his childhood from family and relatives, this book gives us a different perspective of Padre Pio. One of the most interesting documents included is a school paper written by the Holy Padre himself. The book concludes with documented miracles by Padre Pio, which are amazing. A recommended book for all those who want to know Padre Pio from a new perspective.

WB05 - WHERE ANGELS WALK, by Joan Wester Anderson. This is Joan's first book on angels that hit the bestseller list for weeks and weeks and was translated into 14 languages. It started with her son's experience of an angel saving his life and multiplied from there. Incredible, yet true stories.

WB06 - GOD-SENT, A History of Accredited Apparitions of Mary, by Ron Abraham Varghese. A wonderfully complete book not only about apparitions of Mary but about her role in history, in the Church and in our lives. A chronology of Mary's apparitions from the year 70 to the present. It fully explains who Mary is (New Eve, Woman clothed with the sun) tells what an apparition is and isn't and includes Jesus in all explanations. Beautiful pictures and comprehensive descriptions of all apparitions. A lasting treasure of a book.

Tim Staples was a Baptist who became an Assemblies of God preacher and was very Pentecostal. He writes from his own experiences and his "Bible background." He answers questions about the faith in a concise, understandable and fun-to-read language. Tim gives you a question, then explains the answer with a passage in the Bible as reference - the way our Protestant brothers and sisters relate to all truth - with Biblical justification. This book will help you answer any tough questions about your faith.
